This is where you can find useful information and tips that we’ve picked up along the way that have helped us plan our trip or came in handy. You will also find some useful tools that we developed (being the excel nerds we are) that really helped us plan our trip and get organised. Feel free to get in touch with any other amazing information, recommendations or tips!
Probably the most important and difficult aspect of planning for a trip around Australia. We spent a lot of time working out how we were going to afford the trip, how much we would set of with, what the costs were to get us there and of course what our budget was during the trip. We committed to putting aside approx a third of our monthly salaries into savings for the trip, while also gradually buying things we needed for the trip, outside the $’s we were saving. As we are excel geeks we wouldn’t miss an opportunity to create a fancy spreadsheet, so we developed a useful Budgeting tool which we used to help us pull together our savings and costs, regularly reviewing it to make sure we were on track.
The tool can be downloaded FREE below, along with detailed instructions to help you on the way:
Travelling with you dog can sometimes be an overwhelming experience and definitely comes with a number of pro’s & con’s, but for us, not taking Archie wasn’t an option. While it does take quite a bit of extra planning and can often be more expensive and even restrictive in many ways, it is manageable with the right planning. We’ve put together some things to think about and some general tips, tricks and useful information when planning a lap of Australia or an extended trip with a dog.
We’ve pulled together some handy checklists to got through when packing up the caravan ready to set off and checklists on hitching and unhitching the caravan from a tow car. These are great to use a guide until you become more confident in carrying out each checklist when on the road. It’s also a really good idea to complete them with a friend or family member and have each other cross check to ensure everything is completed correctly before setting off.
